SA: Sons appear in court charged with mother's murder

Two South Australian brothers .. charged with murdering their mother .. have made separate
court appearances today.

24-year-old THOMAS HEYWARD has been refused bail in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court
.. while his 20-year-old brother MATTHEW has appeared briefly in the Adelaide Magistrates
Court.

The two men .. along with their 52-year-old father NEIL HEYWARD and a 26-year-old farmhand
.. are each charged with the murder of 53-year-old GLENYS HEYWARD in July.

Human remains .. believed to be those of Ms HEYWARD .. were excavated by police from
a property near Wilton in far west Victoria on Friday.







Defence lawyers for THOMAS HEYWARD applied for bail because he needed to look after
his father's Mt Schank dairy farm .. but the magistrate refused .. saying he was a risk
of absconding.

In Adelaide .. his younger brother also applied for bail but magistrate MARY-LOUISE
HRIBAL held over argument on the bail application until Friday and remanded MATTHEW HEYWARD
in custody.

Prosecutor JANE POWELL told the court bail would be opposed.

NEIL HEYWARD is expected to face a bedside court hearing later today .. after he was
taken to the Mt Gambier Hospital yesterday with self-inflicted knife wounds.

HEYWARD was arrested by major crime detectives after an eight-hour siege in Beachport
.. 390km south-east of Adelaide .. on Saturday.
