LIGHTNING Jamaican Usain Bolt is still yet to break sweat as he strolls towards double sprint gold. The laid-back sprinter, who smashed the 100m world record having walked over the line on Saturday was just as much at ease in his preferred 200m yesterday. And as in the 100m Bolt looked in a different class to everyone else - even the defending champion Shawn Crawford. In yesterday's second round he repeated what he had done in the first qualifying without even trying. The fastest man on the planet came off the bend well in front and eased off with fully 50 metres to go, crossing the line in what some would say was nothing more than a canter, others a brisk walk.He crossed the line in 20.29 seconds, with American Crawford (20.42secs) in second and veteran Kim Collins of St Kitts and St Nevis stealing third from veteran Briton Marlon Devonish.
The 21-year-old Bolt, who has run the three fastest 200m times this year including the fifth fastest ever - 19.67secs in Athens, is bidding for a first Olympic sprint double since American Carl Lewis achieved the feat at the Los Angeles Games in 1984.He said: C[pounds sterling]ICOm just looking to go out and show the world how hard ICOm working.C[pounds sterling]ICOm satisfied that I was leading all the way and ICOm qualified for the semi-final.C[yen]Many sprinters tend to be pent up and hyperactive, but to prove that he is as calm and collected as they come, Bolt revealed that he had done little else but sleep since his 100m victory.C[pounds sterling]After the 100m, I had little time for celebration. All I have done is a big sleep and some relaxation. I just take it on my own.C[yen]
Other runners through to the semis include ZimbabweCOs Brian Dzingai, who followed up his first-round victory with an impressive 20.23secs win ahead of 100m bronze medallist Walter Dix.The American hit the final stretch neck-and-neck with Dzingai but faded before rebounding in the last 10 metres to finish second in 20.27secs.C[pounds sterling]I came off the bend and controlled the straight,C[yen] said Dix. C[pounds sterling]That is exactly what I wanted to do, I didnCOt want to give too much away. I wanted to save as much energy as possible for the semi-finals.C[yen]But compared to Bolt Dix looked like he was straining every muscle in his body to even stay within three metres of the Jamaican.Elsewhere, one runner who could be in the shakedown for the medals is Churandy Martina of the Dutch Antilles, who finished fourth in SaturdayCOs 100m and qualified in the 200m with 20.42secs.
Defending champion Crawford had earlier said that he felt under no pressure to follow up on his gold medal-winning exploits at the Athens Games four years ago.C[pounds sterling]I donCOt have to defend anything, the 2004 medal is mine and nobody can take it,C[yen] he said, adding that C[pounds sterling]everyone is beatableCO.C[pounds sterling]I am here to shoot for the 2008 medal, we are all doing the same - trying to shoot for that gold," Crawford said. C[pounds sterling]ICOm ready to fight. If I wasnCOt ready to fight I wouldnCOt be here. C[pounds sterling]The legs feel good, I am ready to go.C[yen]Meanwhile, the UAECOs speed king Omar Juma al Salfa finished seventh in his 200m first-round heat. The 19-year-old may not have made the second round but he ran a seasonCOs best 21.00secs to suggest thereCOs more to come from him in the future.
