Fed: Beazley undecided on Telstra Timor ads

SYDNEY, Aug 18 AAP - Opposition Leader Kim Beazley has not decided whether a Telstra
advertising campaign featuring Australia peacekeepers in East Timor exploited them.

The television advertisement used footage of Australian soldiers in action in East
Timor and their families at home talking about how much easier Telstra telecommunications
services made it to keep in touch.

Mr Beazley told reporters today in Sydney that he was worried about Telstra, or any
other company, using images for their own purposes of people who sacrifice themselves
for the nation.

"These people should be accorded proper respect at all times for putting their lives
on the line for Australia," Mr Beazley said today.

"I have actually seen one or two of these ads and I can't say I have come to any further
conclusion."
